In 1963 the city of Connersville had a very central political figure that had been on the scene for over 25 years and 6 elections. The citizens seemed poised for a change and that change was Ralph Newquist. As the 10-year President and General Manager of one of the city’s most prominent manufacturer’s Roots Blower Company Ralph had been involved behind the scenes for a time already. He led the drive for water improvements in the Industrial Park area, spurred a project to build a EMS permanent home in the factory district and he had been instrumental in the just held Sesqui-Centennial celebration marking Connersville’s first 150 years.

Ralph Newquist had come to Connersville just after WWII having been the head of International and Marine sales for Allis Chalmers during the war. He was a Penn State grad and as a licensed engineer he had also worked for Reliance Electrical and Engineering.
